Swine Flu Tracking Charts: 28 Apr Update

This is not the latest update. For the latest update click on "Latest Swine Flu Tracking Charts" at the upper right of the page.

Updated with confirmed cases from CDC and WHO 28-Apr updates. I also have made some changes to the Yahoo News and Google Search volume charts.

Confirmed Cases Tracking Chart

Since yesterday 24 additional U.S. cases, 8 additional outside the U.S. for a total of 32 additional globally. New Zealand, United Kingdom, and Isreal added to the list today (U.S., Mexico, Canada, Spain were on the list yesterday).

Swine Flu Public Interest Chart

Updated with Yahoo News count through Apr-27 and Google Search volume through Apr-26 (google trends limitation) Combined the Yahoo News count chart and the Google Search volume count into one chart. Also figured out how to get daily Google Trends data so that was good to see more detail daily. Looks like the Yahoo News count picked this up sooner than the Google Trends data (not even including the day earlier I can get the Yahoo News count)

I have two purposes in mind in keeping track of these swine flu tracking charts. First, is to have an objective tracking measure to track the evolution of the swine flu and the publics response to it. Second, if this goes on long enough then I should be able to apply some time series analysis and forecasting tools to help see when the swine flu infection rate itself is changing and to help to see when the public's response (and in some cases hysteria) is shifting.

Here is the original Swine Flu Tracking Charts post that has some more background on the charts.
